For the RIZPAH meeting on January 7, guest speakers Myrna and Jim Loehrlein shared their stories of building habitat homes with Jimmy Carter worldwide. Deb Streff introduced the topic by sharing a research paper written by seven-year-old Mattie Stepanek. Mattie loved and admired Jimmy for his work in creating peace. Mattie also believed in peace, and he wrote a book entitled, “Just Peace,” with his dreams of creating peace within himself and others and the world. Jimmy and Mattie became great friends. Mattie died from a rare form of muscular dystrophy at the age of 13.
The message that Jim and Myrna shared was that Jimmy was all business. The work and the people receiving the home were most important. So, Jimmy was a taskmaster who kept everyone on task and schedule. Rosalyn traveled and worked with him throughout their habitat work and actually throughout their married lives, even when Jimmy was president. GREAT PROGRAM AND ENJOYED BY ALL!
In the January 9th Elizabeth Circle meeting we filled out the library cards for our book collection and organized them on our dedicated shelves in the library. Be sure to take a look the next time you’re at church. Feel free to check out a book or two!
