Last August, Matthew 25 saw the need for two Transform weeks. There was so much damage due to the derecho, that many homeowners needed help for tree limb removal and tarping. After I toured each project site with Clint Twedt-Ball, the executive director at Matthew 25, I went back to a local trailer park to work with some volunteers. There I met a little boy, about 8 or 9 years old, and he had been loving the
attention all week. He said to me, “I’m so glad you guys are here. Until now, no one has come. No one has come to help us, and you’ve been here all week long.” This young little boy got it. He understood that his family and neighborhood had been neglected. Transform seeks to work on homes in the neighborhoods that have been traditionally neglected. They work in neighborhoods and work with people on the
farthest edges of society.
You have the opportunity to volunteer for Transform Week this month, June 21st -25th. This week is a week of completing projects on homes and neighborhood buildings to help make these areas healthier, safer, and more attractive. You don’t have to have many skills to help with Transform Week. While we do appreciate volunteers with knowledge of power tools and general construction, we welcome gardening,
painting, hauling out debris, painting, etc. There is usually some task that you can handle. Whether you can only assist for part of a day or the entire week, we’ll work you in!
If you are looking for a way to give back to the community, we invite you to consider signing up for a portion or all of Transform Week. You can signup here: www.hub25.org/transform. If you have any questions, comments, or wish to sign up for Transform Week, please contact Pastor Kristina at kristina@lovelylane.org or Les Minor at lminor@imonmail.com.
Blessings, Pastor Kristina
